Abstract: In Charles Robert Maturin's, Melmoth the Wanderer, John Melmoth, after having reached the old and weird uncle at his bedside, discovers he has an heavy inheritance. He has to destroy what has created the mortal fear of the parent: a portrait and a manuscript, shrouded in mystery, which lead us into a story in the story.
